Ruth Roman was born on June 22, 1939 at Lynn Massachusetts. Ruth Roman is the youngest child of Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold & Abraham Roman. Her father, who was a carnival barker, was killed as a young child, forcing her mother to provide for the family by being an attendant and a cleaner. Ruth grew up in the tenement area of poverty of Boston, Massachusetts, where she went to school. Following only two school years, Ruth left to pursue the acting career. This path was fraught with challenges. After landing a gig at New York as a model for a detective magazine she found it difficult to secure opportunities for stage. As a hat check girl at a nightclub she resigned and went back to Boston. In the New England Repertory Company was the first job she had as a steady actor. She earned money by performing during the daytime working as an Usherette. She studied drama in The Bishop-Lee Theatre School and graduated.
